Development Associate

JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Development Associate
Department: Development
Classification: Part-time Staff 10 - 15 hours per week to start with goal of increasing hours yearly, over the next 2-4 years
Reports To: Producing Artistic Director
Rate of pay: $25/hour
Summary
The Development Associate will be a supporting role helping to plan, implement, and manage fundraising strategies in support of Seattle Public Theater’s mission and programs as a member of the Development (DEVO) team. This individual will attend weekly development meetings and monthly staff meetings. This role focuses on supporting the cultivation and stewardship of relationships with individual donors, corporate sponsors, foundations, and government funders to secure financial support for all programming, community outreach, and operational needs. The ideal candidate is a quick learner, strategic thinker, and skilled communicator, with passion for theater and its importance in our world. The candidate should have experience with fundraising and/or non-profit theater.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities
Support a comprehensive fundraising plan developed by the DEVO team, including annual giving campaigns, major giving, corporate sponsorships, grants, and special events to meet budget goals set forth by the Producing Artistic Director and The Board.
Learn to use donor management database, ArtsPeople, to track contributions, generate reports, and analyze fundraising metrics.
Work alongside the Director of Communications to create compelling fundraising materials, including appeals, newsletters, and social media campaigns.
Support the current Development/Grant writing team by researching funding opportunities, learning to craft compelling proposals and final reports for foundations and government agencies.
Event Management
Work with the DEVO team and outside partners to plan and execute community/fundraising events, such as annual season announcement party, donor events, walk-and-roll-a-thon, book events, and other popups.
Help to coordinate logistics, including venue selection, vendor management, and volunteer/board support.
Collaborate with marketing and programming staff to help align events with the organization's artistic mission and brand.
Desired Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in nonprofit management, arts administration, communications, business, or a related field; OR equivalent work experience.
Experience:
Minimum 1 year of professional fundraising or related non-profit experience (performing arts organization a plus).
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Suite. Database software and/or donor database software like ArtsPeople preferable.
Skills and Abilities:
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, comfort with public speaking, and networking in diverse settings.
Strong relationship-building skills, with a community-based approach to cultivation and stewardship.
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, manage priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
The role will require some evening and weekend work to attend events and performances. Availability for these events is expected.

Familiarity of fundraising best practices and trends in philanthropy, particularly in the arts sector. Familiarity with the local philanthropic community and arts funding landscape.
