THE YOUTH OPERA PROJECT: PIRATES OF PENZANCE

Seattle Opera’s youth opera chorus and Seattle Public Theater creates a partnership that allows young artists to explore creative and vocational pathways in the performing arts with socially relevant material.

Seattle Opera and Seattle Public Theater are pleased to launch a new initiative: The Youth Opera Project! Students age 13–18 of all experience levels will explore stagecraft, singing, acting, dancing, and more, culminating with public performances of an opera.

Youth participants will work with professional teaching artists in a fun and safe space. We are committed to providing equitable access to the arts, so The Youth Opera Project accepts everyone ages 13–18, regardless of skill level or ability to pay. No prior experience is necessary.

THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE

This exciting collaboration between Seattle Opera and Seattle Public Theater gives high schoolers a chance to work on this classic opera in a professional environment. Pirates of Penzance, directed by Seattle Public Theater's beloved and esteemed co-artistic director Kelly Kitchens, is a joy-ride that includes swashbuckling pirates, and romance. Our three week intensive will give your child an introduction to the professional world of theatre and opera while strengthening their performance skills.
