Twelfth Night
directed by Shana Bestock

“If music be the food of love, play on!”

Probably Shana’s favorite Shakespeare comedy - and I’ve been saving it for you! Yes, there’s a shipwreck, but the only magic in this play is the very human transformations of the delightful characters. Lovesick and lonely, they bumble around in the darkness of their dreams and desires until at last everyone - well, almost everyone - finds their heart’s desire.

Viola loves Orsino, who thinks he loves Olivia. Olivia thinks she cannot love at all, then thinks she loves Cesario who is really Viola, dressed as a man. Malvolio thinks he ought to be a gentleman, while the foolish Sir Andrew is one, but is no match for the Lady Olivia. Add in a mournful clown, a wily and witty maid, a swashbuckling brother, and you have a recipe for music, madness, mayhem, and merriment!

We are Absolutely Not Okay
co-production with Scriber High
& Ingrid Rick

Teens claiming their power, finding their voices, and sharing their stories, with each other and the world. Find out what happens when teenagers who've known gang life, abuse, addiction, neglect, homelessness, and other hardships meet teenagers who've known stability, love, and advantages - yet still have their own stories of fear, depression, doubt, and anger. Taking part in each others' stories, find common ground and share your experience through a dynamic theatrical event. Through personal writing and shared performance, teens discover themselves and each other as they literally take a part in each other's lives. Presenting an honest, unsentimental look at life across socio-economic boundaries in the greater Seattle region.

This unique workshop is both acting class and play production, and might in fact change your life. The first week we spend building ensemble and doing specialized acting and writing exercises. The second week we refine our material into a performance piece, add production elements, and rehearse, all the while deepening our craft and our relationships with ourselves and each other.

The ensemble consists of 6-10 teens from Scriber Lake and 6-10 teens from Seattle Public Theater's Youth Ensemble. Staff includes theater director, writing mentor, dramaturg, and additional associate teacher.

The Government Inspector
directed by Shawn Belyea

Excuse me, are we discussing bribes? Because if we’re discussing bribes, I freely admit I rule in favor of whatever side offers me the biggest one, but I never take money, I always take it in farm animals and game.— Judge
A bribe is a bribe. — Mayor
Not if you eat it. — Judge

When the locals in a small town in Russia learn that an undercover government inspector is coming for a surprise visit, an unfortunate case of mistaken identity sends the village spiraling into a world of panic and greed. Witty, smart and wildly satirical, The Government Inspector exposes the corruption of a provincial town with biting hilarity. This spirited adaptation is by famed playwright and screenwriter Jeffrey Hatcher. (The Falls; Tuesdays With Morrie)

Rampant corruption in government offices. Politicians on the take. Bureaucratic incompetence. Unbridled entrepreneurial greed and lazy selfi-interest. Sound familiar? Though any of the above may remind you of a story or two from the local newspaper or the nightly television news, these are actually just a few of the wild antics in THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR, a hilarious game of deception, misconception and chicanery.

TICKETS:
Tickets for all youth productions are first-come, first serve at the door, available 1/2 hour before showtimes. Tickets are free, with a suggested donation to the scholarship fund. We rarely sell out completely, so you are usually assured of a ticket even if you come at the last minute, but it's always nice to arrive about 15 minutes early.

Able to give a little more?
Consider matching donations for a single performance, and double the opportunities for students!

Or, join our Education Leadership Circle to sponsor an entire show, and support the youth program's continued work. To find out more about the levels of sponsorship available, and how ELC sponsorship can help your business, click here: ELC Sponsorship Benefits.
