On the night of her failed reelection bid, an ambitious female senator is confronted by a shrewd young aide. Right in time to coincide with the countdown to the national election, Vince Delaney (Writer 1272, Kuwait) offers SPT the West Coast Premiere of his biting political drama. Do we ask women who run for office to be something more than human?

As part of Seattle Public Theater’s (SPT) West Coast Premiere of The War Party by Northwest playwright Vincent Delaney, Seattle City Councilmember Sally Clark and University of Washington (UW) professor Dr. Lance Bennett and the UW Citizen Roundtable will be holding post-show discussions on Sunday, September 28th and Sunday, October 5th respectively.
The post-show discussions, joined by Delaney and moderated by SPT Artistic Director Shana Bestock, will explore the themes and important questions raised within the play. The panel will have fifteen minutes to reflect and then the audience will have thirty minutes to ask the panel questions about the play.
Ms. Clark is former journalist who holds an MFA from the University of Washington in Public Administration. Since 2006, she has served on the Seattle City Council and her career includes both non-profit social services and government work aimed at both helping people to become their own best advocates and connecting people with government in ways that improve their lives and their communities. Ms. Clark will host the post-play discussion on Sunday September 28th following the 2pm performance.
Dr. Bennett received his PhD from Yale University and is currently a Ruddick C. Lawrence Professor of Communication and Professor of Political Science. He is also the founder and director of the Center for Communi cation and Civic Engagement. The Center is dedicated to understanding how communication processes and technologies can enhance citizen engagement with social life, politics, and global affairs. Dr. Bennet and the UW Citizen Round Table will host the post-play discussion on Sunday October 5th following the 2pm performance.
