| JAN 18 — FEB 17 HELD OVER! Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays @7:30 PM, Sunday matinee @2:00 PM TRAVESTIES
By Tom Stoppard
|
A whirlwind comedy of history, memory, and the collision of ideas. Travesties springs from the often faulty memory of Henry Wilfred Carr, a minor official of the British consul in Zurich, Switzerland. In 1917, Carr was asked to take a role in The Importance of Being Earnest by none other than the soon-to-be-famous writer James Joyce. See what happens when Carr’s impossible boring life intersects with Joyce, Anti-art artist Tristan Tzara, and revolutionary Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, better known as Lenin. Directed by Susanna Wilson, with Gavin Cummins, Therese Diekhans, Dennis Kleinsmith, Hana Lass, Frank Lawler, Jon Lutyens, and Tracy Repep.

Joe Martin, member of the Wild Geese, leprechaun at heart, will read
a bit from "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" following
the 2pm matinee Jan. 28th, answer questions, and engage in a post-play
discussion of Joyce with actors and audience.
The cast of Travesties will read Oscar Wilde's The Importance of Being Earnest as their Stoppard-ian counterparts beginning at 5:30pm, as an extra special treat to our audience. You'll see why Tom Stoppard used this seminal theater piece as a basis for his fascinating study in historical figures.
Come to the historic Bathhouse Theater and hear The Importance of Being Earnest on Sunday, January 28th at 5:30 PM after the 2:00 PM matinee of Travesties.
