YOUTH PROGRAM 2011-2012

Performance Schedule

All performances are at the Bathhouse Theater on Greenlake.

TICKETS:
Tickets for all youth productions are first-come, first serve at the door, available 1/2 hour before showtimes. Tickets are free, with a suggested donation to the scholarship fund. We rarely sell out completely, so you are usually assured of a ticket even if you come at the last minute, but it's always nice to arrive about 15 minutes early.

Able to give a little more?
Consider matching donations for a single performance, and double the opportunities for students!

Or, join our Education Leadership Circle to sponsor an entire show, and support the youth program's continued work. To find out more about the levels of sponsorship available, and how ELC sponsorship can help your business, click here: ELC Sponsorship Benefits.

Anon(ymous)
by Naomi Iizuka
Directed by Shana Bestock

Separated from his mother, a young refugee called Anon flees his war torn country and embarks on a journey to a new life. Swept ashore in the United States, he encounters a wide variety of people – some kind, some dangerous and cruel – as he searches for his family. From a sinister one-eyed butcher to beguiling barflies to a sweatshop, Anon must rely on his instinct, resilience and humor as he navigates through a chaotic, ever-changing landscape. Based on Homer's Odyssey and as abundant, funny, anguished and hopeful as America itself, Anon(ymous) offers a rich and witty exploration of how we all search for home and identity.

Produced and performed by an ensemble of high school students drawn from around the city.

Performances:
November 4 @ 7pm
November 5 @ 7pm
November 6 @ 2pm
November 11 @ 7pm
November 12 @ 2pm & 7pm

#Macbeth
Directed by Shana Bestock

In this dynamic modern-day setting, the language remains Shakespeare's but the action is in an urban jungle of teenage turf warfare. With little adult oversight, teenagers are left to figure out for themselves what it means to "be a man". MacBeth is top-dog of the in-crowd, and loyal friend to gang leader Duncan. But when he is told by three weird outsiders that he will be the next leader, he can't shake his thirst for power. Driven by what they think is destiny, MacBeth and his sister kill Duncan, but soon find that holding on to power comes at great cost. In a world fueled by texting, tweets, and status updates, is it more important to be a bully or a brain? Who wins - the one with a gun, the one with friends, or the ones with computer-hacker skills?

Performances:
October 28 @ 7pm
October 29 @ 2pm & 7pm
October 30 @ 2pm
