MAY 17 —JUNE10 Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays @7:30 PM, Sunday matinee @2:00 PM MASTER HAROLD
... and THE BOYS By Athol Fugard |
A classic by one of the best playwrights of the 20th century. Hally is a white boy in 1950s South Africa. Sam and Willie are black men who work at his family's restaurant. One afternoon, Hally does his homework while Sam and Willie train for ballroom dancing contest. The three share lessons learned and fond memories, but when news comes that Hally's alcoholic father will return home, the personal becomes political. At once a coming of age drama and a scathing indictment of apartheid, this modern masterpiece continues to speak to the world's many racial injustices. Directed by SPT Artistic Director Shana Bestock and featuring Marcel Davis, Canada Leigh, and Trick Danneker.
Following the Sunday, May 20th Matinee, Nicholas Hubbard, Seattle Public Theater's Dramaturge, will join the cast for a post play discussion of the play, the playwright, and the research he had done on the history of apartheid. Come and join us for a revealing look at Athol Fugard and his world.
