SMASH (by Jeffrey Hatcher)
Directed by Shana Bestock
Hilarious fun! Occupy Wall Street meets the Ivy League. SMASH is a stage adaptation of George Bernard Shaw's comic novel, An Unsocial Socialist. All of Shaw's humor, wit and satire, with all the energy and pace of a modern comedy. A young man faces a dreadful moral dilemma. Newly wedded and filthy rich, he's got everything life could possibly offer. So what's his problem? He's a socialist. Naturally he has no choice but to throw it all away and join the working classes. In a completely misguided attempt to subvert the government, he goes in disguise to a boarding school for girls--and the fun begins! Class warfare, the war of the sexes, and the war on education, along with roller skates, unicycles, love triangles, bad poetry, and bombs. "We have no other choice -- socialism, or SMASH!" NOTE: This is an Advanced Ensemble production, which means a slightly smaller cast and a specific mix of ages and genders. Thus, registration does not guarantee you a space in the production, though you must register to be considered and every effort will be made to adhere to our usual first-come, first serve policy while ensuring we have an appropriate mix for the show. You will be notified either way as soon as possible, and no later than March 1st. Rehearsals: March 21 - April 26, Mon & Wed, 6:00-8:30pm. Plus Fri, March 23, 6-8:30pm. Cost: $250 |
