Your actors were amazing and the story so relevant. Thanks for including us -- what a wonderful experience!

Thanks again for SPT's high expectations--expecting a lot of the kids, for the same reason that good children's story writers don't "talk down" to kids. I feel this every time I go to a youth performance, and I observe its effect on kids, too, who are justly proud of their accomplishments. This goes much deeper and is more substantial than it would seem on the surface, and I feel it among all the staff. I think that's extraordinary, I really do. You're offering something more than a 'drama' education, which is why the majority of those high school kids when asked indicate that they're not necessarily planning a career in the theater... but they keep coming back. You probably already know that, but it's good for you to know that other people know that, too.

A Midsummer Night's Dream, Summer 2011
You pulled off another fabulous show! You are amazing at casting, motivating, developing, teaching, and inspiring the teens. And the Bathhouse community is growing because of you. I think I saw alums that graduated from the program from one up to ten years ago..and often their parents, too.
You also drew in the audience because it's a hilarious old classic. I sat next to people from the general community at two shows who just stopped in to see the show because it was Arsenic and Old Lace. One old lady was whistling like crazy during the curtain call.
Bully! Well done!

A Midsummer Night's Dream, Summer 2011
My husband and I were walk-ins from the neighborhood for tonight's performance of Book of Days. We had to leave right after the show, so couldn't stay to congratulate you and your whole cast. What an excellent job everyone did! No wonder you honor them, and your friendships. We were impressed with the play, and the presence that each actor had.
I'm so glad we found out about this play.

A Midsummer Night's Dream, Summer 2011
There are so many things in this program that make it "worth it" to me. I gave up most of my summer to be a part of this program, and I do not regret that decision in the least.

The Tempest, Summer 2011
I don't know if I could only use three words to describe how much I love the Bathhouse. I guess the three words would have to be "we are family". That’s what I feel like when I go to the Bathhouse I feel like its my second family, everyone has always been there. And if not then they are welcoming to the new comers.

Pirates of Penzance, Summer 2011
I've always appreciated that plays at SPT by young people emphasize the ensemble--the contribution of every part, every person. Our culture has such emphasis on “the Star" that it's really great to see kids demonstrate to themselves and to each other that even "small" parts, i.e. parts with fewer lines, can have a big impact. I think of Bottom, Flute and other 'rustics' in Midsummer, etc. Look at how many kids today indicated a preference for Banquo or the weird sisters when asked about alternate roles... kids who might have all wanted to be Macbeth or Lady Macbeth back in late September.

In answer to your question: Yes "Anonymous" had a very profound effect on me, and on many of my friends and family that came to see it.
I was there for 5 of the 6 performances, and each time I got more out of it. One of my friends that was there told me just the other day, that she looks at immigrants in a whole new light now. Tears still come to her eyes when she thinks about the play.
I don't think you could have picked a better cast to present that play, everyone of your actors put their message across loud and clear.

How can I thank you enough for providing such a fun and meaningful life boat for my kids and the many other kids trying to make sense of this crazy world and their place in it?

Thanks for all your hard work and incredible leadership, guidance, encouragement, care and everything else you put into these productions to make them the most wonderful experiences for the kids. Jake is having a wonderful time both in the theater and out with all his theater friends. I feel like he's maturing and growing in both artistically and socially. What a treasure you are. What a unique, special program you've created.
